Last Day of School for Audrey

Natalie's 5th grade promotion was on the last day of school but because her last day deserved a post of its own I thought Audrey's did, too. Audrey had an awesome year in 2nd grade. Her teacher made learning fun (and musical) and the result was a kid who was very eager to go to school every day. In fact, on the last day of school she received a perfect attendance award. That's right, she did not miss a single day of school all year long. Not only did she have a very healthy year but she also really didn't want to miss a day with Mrs. Swimme. She leaped two whole grade levels in reading, got very good at math and fell in love with science. She memorized all 50 states, did numerous reports about everything from Florence Nightingale to beluga whales and became a little bit of a better speller (we still need a little bit of work in that department...she sort of takes after her Papa Rod in the spelling department). It was a magical year for her.
Every morning in Mrs. Swimme's class the kids were greeted with a morning message. They would read it together while sitting on the rug. It was a great way to prepare them for what was in store that day.
So happy that I could be there in person when the principal came in to present Audrey with her perfect attendance award.
Mrs. Swimme playing the guitar and the kids singing was an every day occurrence. Multiple times per day. They were a very well behaved class and I often wonder if it's just that their teacher was so entertaining.

She opted not to go to Natalie's promotion ceremony because she didn't want to miss a minute of her last day with Mrs. Swimme! Such a compliment to a great teacher. Audrey's wish is that on the last day of school, after her sister's ceremony, I could spend the rest of the school day in her classroom. I did and I had so much fun. Kids and parents were in tears when the bell rang and the year was officially over and I was as misty eyed as the rest of them.

Amazing teacher. Fantastic year. Grateful mama. Hardworking (and exceptionally cute) kid. 3rd grade here we come!
This was a letter her teacher tucked into the goodie bags she prepared for each student as they left on the last day. So awesome.
