Natalie-isms

I'm loving (most of)  what is coming out of Natalie's mouth these days.  She's full of questions and comments about the Christmas season.  And she's started seasoning her sentences with her own, unique versions of well known sayings.

She lives in a world of plentiful princesses, so she often refers to Mary from our nativity scene as Princess Mary. Well, the story got even more royal when she asked me, "Mom, do you know why Mary and Joseph had to go to that temple place?" When I said, "you mean the stable?" she responded, "yeah, the stable. Well, it's because there was no room in the castle for them!"

Out of nowhere the other day she said, "I sure have a handkerchief for a hamburger right now!"

She was counting the days on her advent calendar and telling us about each day's picture and it went something like this:

"The first day..", "The second day...", "The freeth day...", "The fourth day...", The fiveth day.."

She handed me a glitter-filled, glue stick stiffened stack of artwork from school the other day and I noticed the letter K was a recurrent theme. Holding up a colorful "K" painting, I said, "I take it K is the letter of the week?" and she said, "Yes, K is the letter of the week but you can't take it! I want that art for my room!"

And today when she was relentlessly asking and asking for something that wasn't possible I said, "Natalie, you need to stop asking and just get it out of your head."  And she said, "I'm trying, Mommy, but it's stuck in my eyebrows!"

These years are so priceless.
