Our Very Own Food Network

We were pretty  much sick around here from Christmas Eve until the first day of spring.  It was a doozy of a cold and flu season for us. Respiratory crud would hit one of us and then slowly cycle through the entire family.  Just as the last one of us recovered, the next bug would hit and start the cycle all over again.  This is the first year in recent memory when ALL four of us received the flu shot by October 1st.  And this is also the first year that ALL four of us caught the flu.  Bummer.  Consequently, we spent so much time at the pharmacy that the children actually started to PLAY pharmacy at home.  They used washed out amoxicillin containers and opened up shop. So. Sad.

In addition to playing pharmacy, they also played "cooking show".  During our numerous weeks on the couch we watched a lot of TV.  I could see the cartoons turning their little sick day brains into mush so I decided we'd mix in a little Food Network into our TV time.  Like their mama, they LOVE a good cooking show.  Their favorites are Barefoot Contessa, Pioneer Woman and Hungry Girl.  Oh, and this lovely Italian woman on PBS named Lidia.

this bin from Audrey's closet was their oven

When they play cooking show, they set up a kitchen in the living room and talk their way through all the recipes and food prep, just as if a camera was filming them.  It is adorable, squared.  I need to actually film them one time but the best I've done so far is take a few pictures, messy noses and all!  Thank goodness the excessive TV time didn’t completely fry their brains.
