First Days of Summer Vacation!

We have a busy summer ahead of us. Fun busy, but busy.  So we decided the first days of vacation would be relaxing!  We headed to the pool and splashed the morning away.

As we tromped and trudged to swimming lessons each week this entire past school year I often wondered if it was truly working and worth it.  I could see them swimming well at their lessons but they would only be interested in playing in the pool when we went swimming as a family on our own.  So I decided to start a new summer rule: they both must spend the first 15 to 20 minutes of any swim excursion or swim play date practicing their strokes.  Friday was our first test and they didn't fight it.  And the best part was that their swimming looked great.  Natalie did an IM.  I didn't even know what an IM was until she showed me.  It stands for Individual Medley and is a lap of each of the four competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly).  I Googled it.  So impressed this child can do the butterfly.  And Audrey is doing great at timing her side breathing and kicking like crazy.  Her confidence in the water has skyrocketed.  Yahoo!  With steady practice this summer we should be able to hang on to these skills until we start up lessons again in August.
