Sneaky Shoes

Natalie's shoe obsession is nothing new. She wears my slippers, my tennis shoes, my flip flops, Corey's flip flops and even my sandals with a 2" wedge heel on a daily basis. But now she wants to SLEEP in shoes which is where I draw the line.

The other day before her nap I took off her shoes and set them by her crib, promising profusely that she could wear them as soon as she got up. Well, imagine my surprise when I went in a few hours later to get her and she had them ON. At first, I was a little spooked. Is there a little footwear fairy in her closet that brought them to her? Not likely. I soon realized (when I saw her reach for a toy the same way) that she reached through the slats of her crib, collected the shoe, and then miraculously got both fist and shoe back through the narrow opening. Then she succeeded again for the second shoe. Unbelievable.

We do have her crib mattress VERY low to inhibit the little monkey from climbing out. We don't have the necessary piece to convert her bed to a toddler bed (it's in storage along with the rest of our life)so our only option besides total toddler freedom (a big girl bed...which we are NOT ready for yet) is to put the mattress on the floor inside the crib. Oh, it's as lovely as you can imagine. Oh well, now the fancy crib is humbled so the cardboard bookshelves don't feel so inadequate.
